On Saturday, Yuri Meneses and Mayara Menezes (no relation) were elected Rei e Rainha do Carnaval Multicultural in Recife, Brazil. Runners-up for Rainha were Geane Fernandes and Isis Santos. Runners-up for Rei were Diógenes Alexandre and Ivan Pereira. Dean Harris was quite disappointed that the Rei was not crowned in his sunga this year.

OSCARS 2011

This year's winner of Beauty School's 9.99 Evening Gown Award goes to an Oscar winner herself - Jennifer Hudson. The tangerine-red Versace gown was perfect on her. And as is the rule at Miss Universe, she wore the gown; the gown did not wear her.

MISS AND MISTER HUELVA 2011

Miss and Mister Huelva 2011 was held this weekend. Winning the Miss Huelva 2011 title was Elena Olmedo, 20. Antonio Riquelme, 22, won the Mister Huelva 2011 title. Their titles give them the right to compete for Miss and Mister Spain 2011. Miss Huelva runners-up were Rocio Carvajal and Antonela Cuadri. Mister Huelva runners-up were Alvaro Villanuea, 19, and Jesus Benjumea, 25.

MISS NICARAGUA 2011

Adriana Dorn, 24, is the new Miss Nicaragua 2011. She won the title late Saturday night. She will represent the Central American nation in Miss Universe 2011.

CARNIVAL QUEEN

Carnival is one of Beauty School's favorite times of the year. The best known carnival in Spain is perhaps the one in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, where last night, the annual Carnival Queen was elected. She is Laura Ojeda and her winning creation was called "I'm Gran Canaria." Can you imagine that costume on the Miss Universe stage? Oh, BTW, one of the judges was Alberto García, Mister Spain 2010. HAPPY B-DAY, XIMENA!

Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete celebrated her 22nd b-day in China, at a party held at the Mexican Embassy in Peking. Ximena traveled to China to help announce the new director of Miss Universe China, Yue-Sai Kan. Last night, Rocío Damiano, 19, won the title of Miss Mundo Santa Fe 2011 during a gala event in Rosario, Santa Fe's largest city. She will new represent the province of Santa Fe, whose official name in Spanish is Provincia Invencible de Santa Fe, in Miss Mundo Argentina 2011, scheduled for April. Judges for Miss Mundo Santa Fe 2011 included Nadia Cerri, director of Miss Mundo Argentina, and Mariana Arambarry, Miss Mundo Argentina 2010. More photos at ON24.

MISTER CIBELES

Mister Spain 2009 Guillermo Garcia modeled high fashions by designer Francis Montesinos during the 53rd edition of Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week (CMFW) this week in Madrid. Montesinos' shows and fashions are always spectacular! Guillermo is spectacular, too. He is the epitome of alta moda. Prof. Chandni is still peeved with the Mister World 2010 judges for not putting Guillermo in the top 10.

HOMECOMING

Omaha World-Herald, 24-feb-2011: Even though it was only for a day, Miss America Teresa Scanlan was glad to be home. After being crowned five weeks ago in Las Vegas, Scanlan spent Wednesday visiting friends and family and making appearances in both Scottsbluff and Gering. She started the day with a visit to her brother Adam's school, Community Christian School in Scottsbluff, followed by a luncheon with county officials; then she met with reporters and talked about her experiences. Scanlan then attended a VIP reception at the Scotts Bluff Country Club, and ended her visit with a banquet in her honor at the Gering Civic Center. Despite everything she's seen since her crowning, Scanlan said one of the dreamlike parts was just coming home. More at the Omaha World-Herald website.

Mister Picardie Jonathan Duforestel, 25 and 1m83, has just been named Mister France 2011. First runner-up was Mister Alsace Sébastien Bucher, and second runner-up was Beauty School favorite Mister Limousin Valentin Lucas.

Beauty School's unanimous pick for the title of Mister France 2011 is Mister Limousin Valentin Lucas, 22 and 1m86. The contest is tomorrow. Check out all ten finalists! Videos and pix here! YENDI'S BACCHANAL

Yendi Phillipps, Miss Universe Jamaica 2010 and Miss Universe 2010 first runner-up is all set for Carnaval! She is the face behind Digicel's Ming Dynasty campaign for the 2011 edition of Jamaica's famous Bacchanal.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH - 1959

Three firsts in 1959! Dean Harris is quite intrigued by Miss Festival, as he loves the Cannes Film Festival. He is looking for a student to do research on this pageant and bring you more information on it. The same year that Cecelia Cooper won the Miss Festival title, beating out 14 European entrants, the film Orfeu Negro won the coveted Palm d'Or as the best film of the festival. The movie is an adaptation of the ancient Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, set in the context of a favela in 1950's Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval. The film was an international co-production between film companies in Brazil, France and Italy.
