LONDON CALLING

Irish Times, 25-aug-2010: It was a case of London calling for the second time in a row last night as 26-year-old Clare Kambamettu was crowned the 52nd Rose of Tralee. The assistant psychologist was handed the crown by last year’s Rose of Tralee Charmaine Kenny, a woman who was last year’s London Rose and also – even spookier Rose coincidence – hails from Athy, Co Kildare the place Kambamettu calls home. Kambamettu was hot favourite to win the contest with bookies obviously seeing the truth ever dawning in her dark eyes. The new Rose owes her exotic name to her father who is from Hydrabad in India while her mother is from Co Kildare.

Raymond, a graduate of the prestigious Harvard Law School, was definitely among the night's favourites inside the ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. THE DEAN'S LIST

Making the 2010 Dean's List, and therefore Beauty School's official predictions for top 15 at Miss Universe 2010, are: Albania; Angola; Colombia; Denmark; India; Ireland; Jamaica; Kosovo; Peru; Philippines; Poland; Tanzania; Trinidad and Tobago; Uruguay; and USA.

The Dean's List does not include the Donald's picks. As is rumoured, his picks are likely to be mostly from Europe. Europe is certainly strong this year, much stronger than Latin America in fact. That said, Las Vegas has always crowned a winner from Latin America - Mexico in 1991 and Venezuela in 1996. What will happen tonight?
